Forty years back
One picture from space for every dry season since the 1980s. Move through the years, or set two side by side, and see what the land was before it came to you.
READING FORTY YEARS
The land Green share Not seen clearly
What forty years show on this land
- Then and now
- The biggest fall
- The ground around it
- For whoever inherits it
- This year
Green means growing plants at the height of the dry season: forest, trees along the streams, watered fields. Dry pasture, bare ground and roofs read as not green.
Not finished
- Dry-season pictures only, each made from the clearest days of that season. A wet year reads greener than a dry one, so trust the run of years over any single year.
- The pictures show fields, forest, roads and towns, not single trees or buildings. Where clear days are stitched together, faint seams can show.
- Some years were too cloudy, or were never photographed. They are marked not seen clearly and never counted as bare.
- Three sample lands so far. It does not yet run on a parcel you draw.
