TERRA is run by Dear Wise Earth Inc, which is responsible for the personal data it keeps (the “controller”, in data-protection law). We keep as little as the product needs. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.
01What we keep
- Your email, if you sign in, pay, or give it to open a reading.
- The readings you make while signed in: the boundary you drew and what TERRA found.
- What you add: the parcels you hold, notes, photos and data-room documents.
- Your plan and its status, as Paddle reports it. Card details go to Paddle, never to us.
- If you enter someone’s data room: the email you give at the door, when you came in, the pages you opened, and the network (IP) address you came from.
- What you write to us, and a note you add to a request.
- In TERRA Lab: your answers and votes, tied to a random id kept in your browser, never to your name; a note you write; and your email, if you leave it to hear about an experiment.
- Product counters with no identifier attached, to see which surfaces are used.
- How the site is used: pages visited, time on them, how far you scroll, where you click, and a replay of the session with every form field masked. It is tied to a random browser id, never to your name, email or account, and is not collected if your browser sends Do Not Track.
02Why we keep it
- To give you what you asked for: the account, your readings, your plan, the rooms you run. This is the contract between us.
- To keep TERRA working and secure, and to see how it is used without knowing who you are. This is our legitimate interest in running the service well.
- To write to you about land you read, when you gave your email for that reading. You can say no at any time by replying.
- To tell you about a Lab experiment you asked about, when it runs on any parcel or opens, and to choose what the Lab builds next.
- To keep the payment records tax law requires, which Paddle holds as merchant of record.
03Private readings
A private reading opens for you alone. No one at Dear Wise Earth opens it or sees its land, unless you let Dear Wise Earth in from your account page, as you would when you hire Dear Wise Earth to watch your lands. You can close it again at any time, and the access ends at once.
A private reading is not on the wall and not in the counts, and it leaves no place, boundary or score in our list of visitors or in the client portal.
04If you enter a data room
A data room belongs to the person who runs it, who decides who may enter. That person sees who came in, when, from which network address, and what they opened: it is how they know who has seen what. They are responsible for how they use it. We keep these entries for as long as the room exists.
06Who processes it for us
Each receives only what its job needs, and processes it for us, not for itself.
- Paddle.com, our reseller and merchant of record, for payments, receipts and tax.
- Vercel, which hosts TERRA and stores uploaded files.
- Upstash, the database behind accounts, readings and data rooms.
- Resend, which sends sign-in codes and account email.
- PostHog, which records how the site is used, as described above.
- Groq, whose service runs the model that writes parts of a reading, answers the questions you ask about a parcel and turns a written land search into filters. It receives that content, not your account details, and does not train on it.
- Anthropic, whose model reads a data-room document when its owner asks TERRA to. It receives that document, not your account details, and does not train on it.
- OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service, which turns a place you search for into coordinates.
- The map and data services a reading draws on (such as Esri, OpenStreetMap and Copernicus), which see the area being read and, for map tiles, your browser’s address. They are listed on the sources page.
- Dear Wise Earth’s own client portal, which keeps the email you give to open a reading, with the land it was for when the reading is public, so the follow-up comes from one place.
07Where it is stored
Most of the services above keep data in the United States. If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place with rules on sending data abroad, it travels on the safeguards those providers offer, such as the standard contractual clauses.
08How long
- A sign-in code: ten minutes. A sign-in: 90 days, or until you sign out.
- Your account, private readings, held parcels and data rooms: while the account exists. Deleting the account removes them from TERRA at once.
- Public readings: on the wall, without your name or email, until you ask for one to come off.
- An email given to open a reading: until you ask us to forget it, or delete the account made from it. Deleting the account removes it from TERRA at once; the copy in the client portal is cleared within 30 days.
- Payment records: kept by Paddle for as long as tax law requires.
09Your rights
Wherever you live, you can see what we hold about you, have it corrected, take a copy, have it deleted, and refuse follow-up email. The account page lets you download everything on the account and delete the account yourself. For anything else, write to connect@dearwise.earth from the address the data concerns; we answer within 30 days.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your data-protection authority. If you are in California: we do not sell or share personal information, as those words are used in California law.
10Children
TERRA is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly keep data about children.
11Security
Sign-in codes expire after ten minutes and allow only a few tries. The sign-in cookie cannot be read by scripts on the page. Everything travels encrypted, and cards never reach us. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach touches your data, we tell you without delay.
12Changes
When this notice changes, the date above changes. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, account holders are told by email first.
